After a thorough examination, a chiropractor adds energy to your spine at an opportune time and place to help your body "right" itself.
Think of a chiropractic adjustment as a gentle "nudge" to help restore better movement to the spine.
While the word chiropractic comes from the Greek meaning "done by hand, " there are many ways to adjust the spine.
Whether done with actual hands, various types of handheld instruments, blocks that harness the effect of gravity or by other means, a chiropractic adjustment is distinguished by the chiropractor's intention.
Chiropractic is derived from the greek words chiros and praktikos meaning "done by hand".
It's purpose is to diagnose and treat mechanical disorders of the spine and musculoskeletal system with the intention of affecting the nervous system and improving health.
It is based on the premise that a spinal joint dysfunction can interfere with the nervous system and result in many different conditions of diminished health.
Chiropractic is most commonly associated with injures of the back or neck.
Adjustments can also be beneficial for other musculoskeletal problems such as; jaw, shoulder, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle, and foot complaints.
Dr. Nassif specializes in Activator technique which is a very gentle and thorough form of chiropractic care.
He also manually adjusts patients when warranted (traditional chiropractic).
Dr. Nassif has completed a four year doctorate of chiropractic program in addition to his undergraduate degree.
He has taken national board exams similar to those required to be a medical doctor.
Additionally Dr. Nassif has completed a three year master's degree program in acupuncture including study in China.
A typical first visit last approximately 1 hour and will consist of a brief consultation to ensure that the condition that treatment is being sought for can be helped with chiropractic care.
Acupuncture is an ancient healing technique that has been practiced for over 5,000 years in China.
It is based on the concept of universal life energy called Qi ("chee") present in every living creature.
This energy is said to circulate throughout the body along specific pathways that are called meridians.
As long as this energy flows freely throughout the meridians, health is maintained, but once the flow of energy is blocked, the system is disrupted and pain and illness occur, much like an electrical grid short-circuiting that causes blackouts.
Many people would describe acupuncture as being painless, although some may experience a sensation similar to a mosquito bite or bee sting upon insertion of the needle.
This sensation is usually transient lasting only a few seconds.
Many patients find acupuncture to be a relaxing experience, and often fall asleep during treatment.
Others describe feeling a rush of energy.
Some may describe a dull ache in areas around where the needles are inserted.
Most people find acupuncture to be a pleasant experience.
